My Approach

bullEvery investor’s circumstances and objectives are unique. At Wickham Investment Counsel I manage accounts on a segregated, not pooled basis, so that each client’s investment objectives and tax considerations can be accommodated. I develop a comprehensive and fully customized investment policy statement for each client, and portfolios are custom tailored based on those requirements. Particular attention is given to the risk tolerance, investment objectives, time horizon, and income requirements of each client, and this is translated into the construction of their personalized portfolio.

I feel the most important investment risk is failing to meet the client’s investment goals.

Optimum returns are achieved by concentrating my efforts on developing an appropriate asset mix and selecting quality investments that achieve the agreed upon goals. I am a strategic portfolio manger and each portfolio is customized to the client, but the asset mix is derived from my overall view of the marketplace. My primary investment objective is to earn consistent positive returns at above average rates with below average risk.

I concentrate on researching, discussing, and implementing successful strategies for financial, tax, retirement, and estate planning. No investment management process will be satisfactory if it is not based on a thorough understanding of the unique requirements of each individual client. Each of my clients is served directly by me, a senior officer of the firm, and I believe courteous and responsive service towards all clients is integral to meeting their needs.

I pride myself on my unbiased judgment, intuitive understanding, and my ability to protect, preserve and enhance my clients’ capital. I believe there is no portfolio for all seasons. While top-down and bottom-up investment styles may add value to a client’s portfolio, no singular investment style is appropriate for all markets. Good investment returns plus preservation of capital require flexible money management that evolves and adapts as the investment climate changes. While rigidity can be detrimental, the modified value approach, modified in conjunction with current market conditions, has produced acceptable, and at times exceptional returns over time.
